At HISP University of Malawi, we are specialized in advanced health informatics solutions like DHIS2, HISP UNIMA bridges the gap between technology and healthcare delivery. Our core operations focus on digital health system implementation, health data management, health information research and capacity building etc.
We work in close collaboration with key stakeholders, primarily serving the Ministry of Health and government institutions(health instutions), healthcare workers, development partners, non-governmental organizations, and the academic research community. Through innovation and training, HISP University of Malawi empowers partners with the evidence-based data tools necessary to optimize healthcare delivery and planning.

Digital Health System Implementation
Design, deploy and maintain digital health information systems, for example, DHIS2, across health facilities and institutions in Malawi to ensure seamless health data collection and reporting.

Health Data Quality & Management
Promote and enforce standards for accurate, timely and complete health data collection, storage and use enabling reliable reporting at facility, district, and national levels.

Capacity Building & Training
Strengthen the skills and competencies of healthcare workers, data managers and health officials through academies, hands-on training, mentorship and technical support in health informatics and digital tools.

Research & Innovation in Health Informatics
Conduct applied research and drive innovation in digital health to develop context-appropriate solutions that address Malawi's unique health system challenges and contribute to the broader HISP global knowledge base.

Foster strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Health, government institutions, NGOs, development partners, and the academic community to align digital health efforts with national health priorities and policies.
Our Impact
And Results
HISP University of Malawi has delivered measurable results by deploying large-scale digital health systems across the country. Through the Integrated Community Health Information System (iCHIS), we equipped Health Surveillance Assistants with mobile tools for real-time data collection and service delivery. Our work on the Medical Equipment Management Information System (MEMIS) is reducing equipment downtime and improving procurement, while over 12 years of supporting the National DHIS2 has enabled data-driven decision-making across all 28 districts.
Beyond routine health data, we are advancing climate-resilient systems by integrating environmental data into DHIS2 for early disease warning. Through the IDT4M project with UNDP, we have bridged the digital gender gap by training students, staff, and communities in digital literacy and coding. These results strengthen maternal and newborn care, enhance emergency response, and empower local stakeholders with the tools needed for evidence-based health decisions.
